Communications/Media in Sports Management Internship

Positions Available: Non-paid internship; course credit Internship

Dates: Summer 2019 (June-August), Fall 2019 (Aug/Sept – Nov/Dec)

Work Schedule: Open work schedule; Up to 20 hours per week, plus select weekend events. Opportunity may exist to earn money outside of internship.

MTS Event Management internships provide training for the benefit of students interested in youth and adult sports promotion and non-profit sports management. Interns may receive college credit; as these are unpaid positions.

Responsibilities to include:

  • Creating content for the organization’s social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest)
  • Capturing and sharing unique, behind-the-scenes photos and videos
  • Support weekly email marketing program for events.
  • Monitoring and replying to comments, messages, questions, etc.
  • Tracking and analyzing the organization’s social media activity and engagement
  • Finding and sharing emerging social media practices and trends with the rest of the social media team
  • Writing and reporting feature stories related to MTS
  • Assisting in the editing and maintenance of MTS website


  • Previous experience in a sports office, school paper, internship in team or athletic dept preferred.
  • Experience with sports writing, research, feature writing and transcription.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word with knowledge of Microsoft Office & general computer skills.
  • Design skills, including experience with Adobe Photoshop, are a plus.
  • Photography and video skills are a plus.
  • Analytical skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Capacity to think creatively and contribute new ideas.
  • Knowledge of and passion for soccer.
  • Presents self in a professional manner, ability to interact with all levels of organization and contacts.
  • Dependability – consistently at work on time, follows instructions, responds to supervisor’s instructions.
  • Ability to think and react quickly and appropriately to unpredictable situations.
  • Available to work extended hours including: nights, weekends,and attend company events.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and use discretion when privy to sensitive information.
  • Positive and strong work ethic.

Additional Requirements:

  • Proof of enrollment in college/university
  • For course credit: be able to furnish proof that candidate is receiving course credit for internship
  • Possible temporary assignment for compensation
  • Sophomore/Junior/Senior or Graduate level status
  • Own transportation and living arrangements
